METALLICA's HAMMETT Talks To U.K.'s T3 Magazine About 'Guitar Hero'; Audio Available
March 11, 2009U.K.-based technology magazine T3 recently conducted an interview with METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett about the forthcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica video game. During the chat, which is available for download as an MP3 audio file at this location, Kirk reveals the bandmembers' input into the look and feel of the game, how they chose the 25 classic tracks from their massive back catalog and their experience of motion-capturing their characters. Kirk also talks to the magazine about how his video game addiction almost put the brakes on his guitar career, and the modern technology he uses on the road to write songs with just his guitar and his laptop.
The members of METALLICA had to go through extensive motion-capture filming in order for the game's creators to copy their moves and playing styles. Hammett told The Pulse of Radio that drummer Lars Ulrich had it the toughest. "For Lars, who's a drummer, who has a lot more motion to capture, he had to play along to a whole bunch of different sets of songs a lot more than us guitar players had to," he said. "Which is ironic, 'cause it's called Guitar Hero, not Drum Hero."
